About Me
Here’s some info about who I am and what this site is about
Social Media Fanfare
I tend to be on facebook more than the others, but I always check my email, so send me an email if you want my attention! I also have google wave, you can add me at tarendai@googlewave.com
What’s This Site About?
This site serves as a way to announce news for my projects, express opinions, or share things I find on the internet. It’s my personal blog too, as well as my portfolio, though that section of the site is incomplete at the moment.
Who Am I?
I’m Tom J. Nowell, sometimes known on-line as AF. My middle name’s James.
I’m a 21 year old student, studying for a Computer Games Technology Bsc Hons degree (finalyear) at Liverpool John Moores University.
I’ve been programming for the last 9-10 years in my own time as well as during my studies, and I’m active in many open source communities.
Where Can I Find Your Work?
Look at the projects page in the menu at the top! Be aware thought that this area of the site is under development.
What am I Doing Right Now?
I’m currently working on my final year of Univsersity at Liverpool John Moores University. I will graduate mid 2010.
How Can I Be Contacted?
If you need to contact me, you can send me an email, scroll up for the social media fanfare to see my email! My email is also my msn/windows live messenger account.
All emails and messages sent here are redirected to my personal in-box wherever that may be, so this address is unlikely to change anytime soon (and if it does this address will redirect there anyway). I’ll get back to anybody who sends me messages on here as soon as possible!
Guest Posts
Guest posts are welcome! An article on something in the spring, glest, or TA communities would be welcomed, as would anything interesting or humorous, all within good taste. If you want to guest post send me a copy and I’ll sort something out =).
Potential Employers
You can message me to get a latest and greatest portfolio and a CV/Resume. I’d prefer contact via email, although if possible a chat on Live messenger/msn or skype would be great!
What font is that at the top?
That would be an opensource clone of microgrammer bold extended, read more about it in this blogpost
What does AF mean?
I tend to think of this as a silly question because of the absurd answer it has, but I keep getting asked this and it seems to be the one holdover from having the long-winded alias it replaced, but then when I answer it I get the same question applied to the next one. So to answer this once and for all I have devised this ingenious little diagram to explain all my alias/names:
Well your probably thinking I’ve gone mad and this is all a waste of time. But then again I get asked that often and explaining it each and every time is silly and time consuming =\. So why do I have all these alias? Well aside from the problem of having 7 Toms in a chat room and figuring out which ones which, I did not like using my actual name online for a long time and used my alias, the most well known of would be Alantai or AF.
It wasn’t until a few years ago I realized that all my work is unrelated to my name, and googling myself or my work would give two totally different results. So, wanting credit where due, I started putting my name on my work. I tend to use AF for forum usernames now, and don’t use the mountain of other usernames, although they do crop up randomly in places were I have yet to move on to new accounts or were it would be too troublesome to switch such as msn.
